The Towel Rack Genie comes with a linseed oil finish, which is good for indoors or light weather use.  If you are going to use it out doors, in the harsh environment, an exterior grade finish is recommended.  Touch up your towel rack each year as you see it weathering.  You may want to take down your towel rack during the off season to extend its life.
